A TURNTABLE ADDS TO THE PASSION
Since I wrote in the introduction ‘about us’ that restoring a turntable was a first step in deepening the passion to the music and sound, then I would like to introduce a few protagonists of last years. For the beginning the aforementioned Daniel. The original plinth didn’t stood the test of time so it got a new one made of lapacho hardwood. Unfortunately willing to obtain a better sound I had to look for another turntable because fully automatic Daniel is not a good candidate for modifications or improvements and has for me mainly sentimental value.
After an extensive research I was almost ready to buy Linn Sondek LP12 but then I found Lenco 75. A vintage construction back from sixties. It came out that this simple and ingenious patent based on rock solid motor with high torque, smart idler construction passing motion to the well designed heavy platter is a perfect base for making a well sounding turntable. Jean Nantais reactivated the interest in the old Lenco at the beginning of nineties posting on audiogon forum. This interest is well alive. Currently the lencoheaven.net is a best source of knowledge about this legendary brand.
You can see on the next picture the Lenco I am using now. A new heavy plinth made of birch ply with nine inch Audiomods Series III tonearm with Denon DL 103 R in Midas aluminium body. It is not the end I suppose. Last year during a Lencomeeting in Beaveachain near Brussels my Lenco sounded very well with twelve inch tonearm from Thomas Shick. One warning – the Lenco mania is contagious and pretty addictive. Enjoy listening!
