LET’S LISTEN TO THE BASS
Why Adam and Eva loudspeakers are so big?
Because the bass is a foundation. It sits down deep inside us, it gives the rhythm which we tune to. To get low frequencies out of 8” driver, which is not a real bass driver – those have 12”-15” diameter – a help of acoustic chamber is needed – the enclosure. Very simply speaking, by the increase of the enclosure size it is tuned to obtain lowest frequency response possible. However it has to be done in such a way, to produce sound which is clean, not boomy and not over damped. What counts most of all is the quality of sound rather then the lowest frequency possible to obtain given the size of the enclosure.
For me it is very important, because I have always liked the masters of low frequencies.
While designing my loudspeakers, I tended to obtain good result and it looks like I have succeeded. For years when I was listening to the loudspeakers available on the market, the good bass performance was starting on the price level of seven to ten thousand Euros per pair. I mean a really significant quality change.
And here a fact that the loudspeakers in this price range tend to have above average volumes for these days standards cannot be ignored.
The reason Adam and Eva reproduce low frequencies so good is the enclosure construction and the way the standing waves are eliminated and this without using damping materials.
Clean, fast, and spatial sound is the end result. Sometimes during my listening sessions I am flabbergasted myself by its scale.
As write this text I’am listening to Waters of Eden by Tony Levin and sometimes I just congeal in stillness to hear each whisper coming from the deep soundstage.
You can see on the pictures some of my favourites, but the main address is that, if Adam and Eva are doing good playing Marcus Miller, Tony Levin or John Pattituci they will do good always where a well recorded rhythm section is playing, and especially an acoustic one.
And if I feed my cd player with Bassfidle alla polacca by Vitold Rek and actually Witold E. Szczurek, writing and listening at one time becomes just impossible.
Vitold Rek plays i.a. Johan George Bock Contrabass made in 1819. It is best to listen to his play live – the pleasure that I have not experienced so far- hope one day, but when I am listening to this fantastic virtuosity in my place it is almost like to have the master playing here a private concert.
